TECHNICAL TOPIC 5b - High Speed Drilling Systemsfor Coil Tubing Drill Rigs(DE-PS26-05NT42317-05b)The focus of this work is to obtain a high penetration rate for drilling inreservoir rock. A nominal rate for drilling is 200 feet per hour and theapplicant should study and develop analytical methods to increase thisrate. This should include systems that use ?nearly available? technology, butSHOULDNOT be laser drilling or technologies that are five or more years in thefuture.Research may be performed on existing systems that have promise such asimproved moineau motors and high pressure jetting fluids (including waterandsystems that use bentonite mud, and all liquid suspensions) or novelapplications such as elastomer on pump rotors and protection of the jetsystemor other methods to prevent or compensate for erosion of the fluid transfersystem components on pumps. A specific requirement is a low weight on thedrilling mechanism of CT bits and low torque on the drill assembly, possiblywith a ?tractor? assist near the bit so the CT will not warp or moineauelectric motors such as extra high efficiency electric AC electric motorsespecially if using hollow cores for flowing fluids through the motors. This work is to include the study and initial component design withspecificinformation on methods and sources for any fabrication.References:? http://www.antech.co.uk/CT6.htm? http://www.mms.gov/tarprojects/411/CTD%20manual.PDF? http://www.fe.doe.gov/programs/oilgas/microhole/ALL QUESTIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED THROUGH THE ?SUBMIT QUESTION?
